Salihorsk: civil and political activists express their solidarity with Mikalai Statkevich

In view of the increasing pressure from the authorities on the Belarusian political prisoner, former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich, Salihorsk public and political figures have expressed their support to him.

Former chairman of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union Mikalai Novik, Chairman of the Minsk regional organization of the United Civil Party Viktar Malochka and the regional representative of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Leanid Markhotkasent a letter to the politician in order to cheer him up in these hard times. "It's hard to imagine the things you have to endure struggling for our future behind bars. The regime is keeping you there as the most courageous and staunch fighter. We know that you have refused to sign a petition for clemency. Six years is a test which can be passed not by everyone, but by a very courageous one. We can't but be proud of you!” reads the letter.

Representatives of the democratic socio-political community of the Salihorsk district call on residents of the region and the country to support Mikalai Statkevich and other political prisoners.
