Hungarian politicians discuss human rights situation in Belarus with Ales Bialiatski
May 11 in Budapest, the with the head of the HRC "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski had a meeting with Mr. Gergely Prőehle, State Secretary for International and European Affairs at the Ministry of Human Capacities, and Péter Balázs, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and the European Commissioner for Regional Development who currently heads the Center for EU Enlargement Studies.
According to Ales Bialiatski, the meeting was held over lunch with the participation of the UN Special Rapporteur on Belarus, Miklós Haraszti. The discussion concerned the situation of civil rights and human rights in Belarus in general. The human rights activist described the current situation in the country, after which the participants of the meeting exchanged views on what was happening.
Further, Ales Bialiatski, Miklós Haraszti and Péter Balázs, went to participate in the roundtable "Human Rights in Belarus: has Minsk changed?", organized by the Central European University in Budapest, which supports the development of an open society in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
