Freelance journalist Volha Chaichyts receives summons to court
Freelance journalist Volha Chaichyts has received a summons ordering her to appear at the Dziaržynsk District Court on June 1.
“In the story, for which I will be judged, I told about an incident when our crew was not allowed to attend the public discussion of Fanipal’s new general plan, police officers thus violated the Constitution, which gives every person the right to gather and disseminate information. Besides, I am a resident of Fanipal. In the story, I mentioned the name of the head of Fanipal police, who stopped us. No wonder that they charged us here, in Fanipal,” says Volha Chaichyts.
In early May, the journalist was invited to the police station, where she was charged under Article 22.9 of the Administrative Code (working without accreditation for foreign media).
The charges stemmed from a video report on belsat.eu.
