Belarusian volunteers expand work to Lviv
The Human Rights Humanitarian Mission in Ukraine, which was initiated by the Human Rights Center "Viasna", has started its work in Lviv. The Belarusian human rights activists, led by Uladzimir Vialichkin, should establish cooperation with local non-governmental organizations.
“In recent years there is significantly more interest in the Belarusian non-governmental organizations to what is happening in neighboring Ukraine. It is impossible to receive reliable information about events there from the official Belarusian and Russian media. On this occasion, the Brest branch of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" and activists of the Brest region arranged a trip to Lviv as volunteers to gain experience working with displaced persons (refugees) from the territory of the armed conflict in the Donbas.”
According to official data, there are more than 11 thousand displaced persons in Lviv.
Belarusian volunteers have visited the office of the Center for Legal and Political Research "SIM", which provides assistance to migrants. Later the same day, Belarusians met with the head of the organization "SOS Crimea", Alim Aliyev. "SOS Crimea" is engaged in providing assistance to internally displaced persons from the Crimea and eastern regions, as well as informing about the events in the Crimea.
“Alim Aliyev, head of the organization, told us about human rights violations against the Tatars in Crimea, which he subdivided into several blocks (political, religious, educational, economic and related to freedom of expression).”
Alim Aliyev said that many refugees were forced to go to EU countries, since the state is not able to provide them with adequate assistance. Separately, there is a question of the Crimean Tatars, the problems that the new government simply ignores.
The Human Rights Humanitarian Mission in Ukraine is aimed to help immigrants from the conflict-hit areas. The campaign was launched on June 4 in Kharkiv, and on June 24 it was continued in Lviv. Later, the work of the mission will spread to Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Odessa.
