1,515 prisoners denied amnesty in Belarus

As of July 2, the Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has considered the question of amnesty of 2,975 persons who are serving prison terms. 758 of them have been released, including 25 minors. Prison terms have been reduced by one year for 702 prisoners.

1,515 prisoners were denied the application of the amnesty law in connection with claims against them or malicious violations of the order of serving the sentence.

As a result of the application of the law on amnesty the convicts compensated almost 863.2 million rubles of losses.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka singed the law On Amnesty in connection with the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 in May. It is expected that about 2.2 thousand people will be released from prisons, and the action of the law will a total of about 8.6 thousand prisoners.
