On July 23, Ryhor Kastusiou, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, received an answer from the Supreme Court of Belarus to his appeal filed as part of supervisory procedures.

The complaint asked the Supreme Court Chairman to reverse the fine imposed on the politician by the Škloŭ District Court for his involvement in an event that honored the memory of the 1863-1864 anti-Russian rebels of Kastus Kalinouski, as well as a later verdict by the Mahilioŭ Regional Court.

In addition, Ryhor Kastusiou asked to issue a particular decision against Judges Sviatlana Barantsava, Mikalai Hladki and Ihar Proshka for committed violations of the law.

Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court R. Aniskevich wrote in his response that “your arguments about the absence in your actions of the elements of the alleged administrative offense and a violation of your right to freedom of assembly and expression are unworthy.”

Ryhor Kastusiou says that he can never agree with the conclusions of the Supreme Court, as he believes that by participating in honoring the memory of the rebels, he did not violate the law. According to the politician, he has passed all the courts in the country with a hope to overturn the unfair, in his opinion, court order, which punished him with a fine of 25 basic units, and will now prepare a complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee.
