UN Agency for Refugees has undertaken a project to support internally displaced persons in the Kharkiv region in partnership with the charity station "Station Kharkiv", which has been engaged in the respective volunteer activities for more than a year already. The joint project is titled “Station Region” and will last six months.

The project is aimed at organizing new assistance points for IDPs in several district capitals of the Kharkiv region – Chuhuyevo, Barvenkovo, Kupyansk and others. The consultation centers will render informational and legal services, as well as psychological assistance to internally displaced persons.

The project coordinator Alisa Venevtseva told how the volunteers will act in other cities and towns of the Kharkiv region, where there are no branches of “Station Kharkiv” and pointed that the launched project will really help to adapt the IDPs, whose number still increases in the Kharkiv region.

“We also don't refuse from humanitarian work, because it's really important in the region. Unfortunately, humanitarian direction is not a part of this project, so we will look for additional resources. As for the other settlements of the Kharkiv region, where there are fewer migrants, they will be informed via a hotline call center located in Kharkov, as well as through mobile brigades that will include a lawyer and a psychologist. About 180 such trips to various towns and cities of the Kharkiv region is planned within the framework of this project.”

One of the local projects of “Station Region” is titled “Under the Arc” and is located in the town of Izyum, where 16,000 IDPs have received assistance lately. This branch is headed by Maryna Alfiorova.

"Next to the humanitarian issues, more important become issues associated with information and social orientation. There was a lawyer working in Izyum, as well as consultants, but they couldn't render assistance to all people during their working hours. That's why this project is a great help to the town and to our organization.”

This is not the first joint project of international philanthropists and Kharkiv volunteers. In May this year the Czech Republic handed over 22 tons of humanitarian aid to displaced persons from the Donbass. The IDPs were passed personal hygiene items, clothing and essential household items. The support was gathered by a Czech charity from the city of Brno.
