Yauhen Vaskovich’s mother: “Son is well, we hope for a quick release”

Rushaniya Vaskovich, mother of political prisoner Yauhen Vaskovich, has told mahilyowspring.org that she received a letter from her son:
“His health is not bad. No conflicts with the authorities. Both externally and inside, he feels good, he said that himself. He hopes that his sentence will be review in September. The decision is going to be taken on September 17. If all goes well, he will be released earlier. If not, then in December there will be another short visit. So, everything is normal, we are hold on.”
Yauhen has sent a letter in which he tells the latest news:
“I’ve been sewing clothing, bedding and other things for the internal use of the colony and orders from outside. The conditions of detention are fine, nutrition is satisfactory, though ‘lean’ and monotonous. Np health complaints. I haven’t even used all the medicines that I received back in December. Vitamins, of course, are not enough, but thanks to transfers and long-term visits, their stock is replenished slightly.
I receive regularly the letters and the rest of the correspondence. I’m always aware of the events that take place. Many plans and ideas for further work, learned and realized a lot. Have became more diplomatic than I used to be. There’s determination and confidence in my actions.
In the elections, I fully support the position of my colleagues of the Belarusian Christian Democracy. I really appreciate the wisdom of the leaders of the organization in the chosen direction. I think this is a historic decision that will preserve the unshakable image of the organization and will not allow the regime to obtain new victims in the form of political prisoners. And the world community itself is to see and draw their own conclusions.
I want to thank all the dear people who remember me, who support me and write to me. Thank you for this! Special thanks to all of my family, for not condemning me in difficult times, supporting and giving wise life training. Especially my Mother, the dearest person to me. It was her who has planted in me all the human values, who has taught to love freedom. Thanks to my Mom for her beauty, kindness and love!”
Yauhen Vaskovich was arrested in 2010 and convicted of allegedly throwing, together with his friends, Molotov cocktails at the KGB building in Babrujsk. He is now 25 years old, most of his imprisonment he has spent in a maximum-security prison in Mahilioŭ, having been cut off from the world.
