Mahilioŭ: human rights activist believes that the absence of individual invitations to the election is no accidental

Mahilioŭ human rights activist Barys Bukhel believes that the absence of individual invitations to the elections is one of the new fundamental distinctions of the election campaign from all previous ones.

“Earlier, the invitations to the polling stations indicated the number of all adults living in an apartment and their surnames and initials. If something was wrong or somebody was absent in the lists of electors, a citizen could phone or come to the appropriate polling station commission to get his personal data corrected. Now, however, an elector can find that he/she is absent in the lists of electors either by specially coming to the polling station, or on the election day,” says Mr. Bukhel.

The human rights activist believes that as it is more difficult to control find about the absence of electors in the lists of voters, it gives more possibilities for manipulation of the turnout.

Another peculiarity of the invitations is that the address of the polling station and the name of the institution on the territory of which it is located are printed in Russian in Belarusian-language invitations, which is a violation of the law – Belarusian-language blanks must be filled in the Belarusian language.
