The Homieĺ Center for Strategic Litigation has sent a message to Mr. Michel Forst, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders. The activists report latest information related to the charges brought against local human rights activist Leanid Sudalenka for alleged resisting detention by customs officers.

The activists say they are concerned about the presence of so-called ‘black lists’ used under the disguise of fighting extremism. They also remind that Sudalenka is expected to be stand trial on October 20.

The facts that I have at my disposal give grounds to assert that the automated border control system has certain modifications related to my personal data in comparison with others, each time allowing the officials to illegally detain me, violating my privacy under the pretext of fighting extremism. I believe that what I have been exposed to is prohibited discrimination applied in connection with my beliefs,” said head of the Homieĺ Center for Strategic Litigation Leanid Sudalenka.

The petition calls on the UN Special Rapporteur to take all possible steps within his mandate to intervene in the situation.
