Human rights activist Sudalenka faces charges of tax evasion
Maryna Baryskina, deputy head of the Homieĺ district tax inspection, has sent human rights activist Leanid Sudalenka summons to appear on December 7 in order to stand an administrative trial. He is accused of concealing 500 rubles received for working with the trade union and 387,024 rubles of dividends received on the shares (about 20 Euros).
Article 23.9 (Part 1) of the Administrative Code (specifying false information in the declaration) provides for an administrative penalty of a fine of 900 to 1.8 mln rubles. It seems that for concealing about 20 Euros the human rights activist could be fined around 100 Euros. According to the Code, tax cases are not considered in court, but directly by the heads of tax inspections or their deputies.
Leanid Sudalenka says he is not guilty of providing false information, but considers the claims as a tool to exert pressure for his human rights activities.
The human rights activist says that he is sure to prove his innocence on December 7. If the inspection did not listen to him, he will do his best to be heard in court.
