In March 2015, the Ašmiany customs department took about 40 copies of the book “Situation of Human Rights in Belarus in 2014”, which was published by the Human Rights Center "Viasna". The books were carried by human rights activist Ales Dzerhachou.

On December 8, a letter from the department’s deputy head D. Stsepanenka said that an examination carried out by a commission of experts found no signs of extremism in the edition.

According to the human rights defender, despite finally ruling in favor of him, the officials violated a number of procedural rules, including ignoring his request to have access to the documents related to the case and replying in Russian, which constituted a violation of the language legislation.
