On December 24, journalist Larysa Shchyrakova was charged with illegal manufacture of media products (Article 22.9 of the Administrative Code) for the TV channel “Belsat”.
“The authorities keep harassing independent journalists,” says Larysa Shchyrakova. “It’s their usual reaction to coverage of socially sensitive issues. Instead of solving the problems that we raise in our reports, the authorities punish journalists for having voiced the problems.”
In 2015, the journalist faced six charges for working without accreditation. She has been punished by fines of over 5 million rubles.
