Libereco: Release all detained protesters in Belarus!
Libereco – Partnership for Human Rights, the Zürich-Cologne based human rights group, has launched an email campaign to urge the Belarusian authorities to "stop the persecution, harassment and intimidation of dissidents".
"Reportedly since 3 March more than 120 protesters, journalists and opposition activists were detained across Belarus for participating in peaceful protests demanding the cancellation of Presidential Decree No. 3, which imposes a tax on the unemployed persons in Belarus.
At least 43 people have been sentenced to 3-15 days of administrative arrest. Many of them are still serving their prison terms. Among the detainees are the opposition politicians Anatol Lyabedzka, Yuras Hubarevich, Volha Kavalkova, Vital Rymasheuski and Pavel Sieviarynets.
I urge you to release all detained politicians, journalists and peaceful protesters immediately and unconditionally," says a sample appeal available on Libereco's website.
The human rights defenders call on everyone to support the email campaign for the release of detained protesters in Belarus.
