According to a reliable source, 16 persons currently held in the ‘rioting case’ have faced additional charges of ‘organizing an illegal armed group’ (Art. 287 of the Criminal Code).
The crime is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
Three more people, Mikalai Mikhalkou, leader of a Babrujsk-based club called Patriot, his son Yan Mikhalkou, and Siarhei Kuntsevich, activist of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party, are only charged with ‘preparing riots’.
A total of 19 persons are still in custody, including six held in the KGB prison and 13 in the Interior Ministry’s pre-trial jail in Minsk.
