This is the third group of people released under recognizance in the so-called “case of patriots”, or “White Legion case”; they have been charged with forming an illegal armed group, criminal art. 287. Yesterday and the day before yesterday seven persons were released.

There are two persons under these charges staying behind bars – Miraslau Lazouski and Viktar Maroz.

We remind that the people were charged with article 293 (preparing mass riots), and later on with article 287 of the Criminal Code (creation of an illegal armed group). After the KGB dropped the charges under part 3, art. 293 of the Criminal Code (preparing mass disorders), the people were staying in detention under article 287.

Human rights organizations demanded to release all 14 people from the KGB facility after information on tortures appeared; according to law, evidence extorted unlawfully does not bear legal force and cannot serve as the basis for charges or used in court.
