Nazarii Boiarskyi, a Ukraine-born human rights activist, was detained by Belarusian border officers when crossing the Lithuanian border last evening. He was forced to get off the train and told that his name was on Belarus’ travel ban list, a Vilnius-based human rights activist Alena Tankachova said on Facebook.
Boiarskyi co-leads an anti-discrimination coalition in Ukraine. He is also education coordinator of the Center for Civil Liberties and activist of the Euromaidan-SOS initiative.
In the summer of 2012, the activist was one of the organizers of a traveling exhibition called “Human Rights Beyond Sports”. The event included campaigning for the release of Belarusian human rights activist Ales Bialiatski, who was at that time behind bars.
