Brest city executive committee did not grant the application for the picket, dedicated to the tenth anniversary of disappearance of the former minister of interior Yury Zakharanka. The politician was kidnapped on 7 May 1999 and has been missing since then.

According to Alexander Lukashenka, the legislation in Belarus is better than in the European Union. In the interview to the Reuters agency he stated that ‘dictator Lukashenka hasn’t ever used tear gas or water cannons’.

The president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenka signed the law On amnesty in connection with the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from German Nazi invaders.

Before the rally of solidarity that was to start in Kastrychnitskaya Square of Minsk on 5 May in the evening, several street cleaning machines arrived to the scene. For some time people couldn’t stay on the square, as they risked to be showered by water.

7 more public activists have joined the indefinite hunger strike of solidarity with Mikalai Autukhovich, Yury Liavonau and Uladzimir Asipenka.

Few people gathered for the traditional action Chernobyl Way at the end of April. 'The past rally can be called an action of recession', commented Liavon Barshcheuski, Chairperson of the BPF Party. Meanwhile, persecution of democratic activists is going on. Human rights defenders are of the opinion that only point changes have taken place. The Minsk city executive committee banned holding of the action on the route that was proposed by its organizers. Democratic activists were detained in different regions of the country.
05.05.2009 Police don’t know what to do with detained entrepreneurs
On 5 May at about 10.40 a.m. the head of the entrepreneurs’ organization Perspective Anatol Shumchanka and his deputies Viktar Chaikouski and Volha Krumina were detained by the police in Kasmanautau Strip while getting out of the car.

As it follows from the letter, received by the journalist Ivan Roman, the head of Leninski district branch of the custodial service of Hrodna, police major Zaikou thinks that his subordinates were right when they did not let the journalist to the open court hearings.
