Last night persons in mufti who introduced themselves as workers of the police department of organized crimes burst into an apartment in Paliavaya Street 26 in Minsk, which was rented by the public activist Krystsina Shatsikava. The policemen stated that they suspected those who were there in illegal stay in the apartment which was owned by another person and in property theft. They also wrote it in the detention reports.

On 27 July in Minsk the police detained Zmitser Butenka and Andrei Litsvinau, activists of the campaign for protection of freedom of conscience, members of Minsk church New Life of the Association of Christian Denominations of Full Evangel in the Republic of Belarus. According to the information given to BelaPAN by the church lawyer Siarhei Lukanin, the youngsters were heading for St. Symon and Alena church in Nezalezhnastsi Square, where there they intended to collect signatures for amendment of the law on religion. However, at about 4 p.m. near Minsk hotel they were detained by the police.

27.07.2007 Detentions in Mahiliou

On 27 July in Mahiliou near a place where unknown persons had hanged a white-red-white flag the police detained an independent journalist Hanna Iliina and the chair of Mahiliou city organization of United Civil Party Siarhei Straltsou. Iliina and Straltsou were accused of making photos of policemen without permission.

On 24 July the police detained the youth activists Pavel Baranouski and Aliaksei Shydlouski for posting leaflets with invitations to the European march For Freedom. The police composed a report for distribution of leaflets against Baranouski and for hooliganism – against Shydlouski.

About 30 youngsters were detained for more than an hour at the railway station of Hrodna Maksim Hubarevich, Aliaksei Salei, Yauhen Skrabutan, Viktar Valko, and Franak Viachorka,. All of them returned from the rock-festival Basovishcha which took place in Poland. Five of the detainees, including Skrabutan and Viachorka, were searched.
