At the end of April the Belarusian boarder guards annulled the multi Belarusian visa to the student of the department of Belarusian studies of Warsaw University Marta Szymanska and put in her passport the seal ‘Entrance prohibited’.

23.02.2009 Belarusian border guards search EHU students

Activist of the “Young Front” Zmitser Yasevich, returning to Belarus after an exam session in European Humanities University, was searched on the border.

Zmitser’s personal belongings were examined carefully, border guards were especially interested in information in his laptop.

After a search border guards asked Zmitser where he lived and studied – in what university, on which faculty, they even asked how the activist passed the session.

“They obviously had an order for a search – a female border guard spoke with someone before the search,” Zmitser Yasevich says. “I faced such unpleasant searched before, but this has been the first one, for a period of the “liberalization”, for the last six months.”

11.02.2009 Activist of ‘For Freedom’ movement is threatened with being directed to work in radioactively polluted region

Aleh Pronski, graduate of Hrodna Agricultural University, is threatened with forced reassignment to Homel oblast. According to the activist, it is the revenge of the authorities for his activism and being a member of For Freedom movement.

On 19 January two KGB officers tried to recruit a first-year student of the Belarusian University of Informatics and Radio-Electronics Pavel Liashkovich.

14.01.2009 Another civil activist is expelled from educational establishment

Aliaksei Zmushko, coordinator of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy in Rechytsa, has been expelled from Agricultural Academy of Horki.

16.12.2008 Young Front members receive reprimand

Young Front activists Tatsiana Shaputska and Nasta Loika, law students of Belarusian State University, were reprimanded for participation in an unsanctioned picket near Dzerzhynski’s monument on November 7th.

12.12.2008 Activist of ‘For Freedom’ movement Ihar Salavei gets fined

On 11 December a trial over the member of the For Freedom movement Ihar Salavei took place in Pinsk. The activist was found guilty under article 25.1 part 3 of the Administrative Code (failure to appear at the military enlistment office on a writ). Mr. Salavei could not come to the military enlistment office as he was in Poland at the specified time. Nevertheless, the court ruled that he was to be fined 35 000 rubles (about $16, minimal sum of fine).

It has been found out today that activist of the For Freedom movement Ihar Salavei is put on the wanted list. He learnt it when he came to the Pinsk military enlistment office.

18-year-old activist Stanislau Senakosau has been expelled from Mahiliou professional lyceum #2. According to him, it was revenge for his political activities, while the administration of the lyceum states that the reason is a rude violation of discipline.

06.10.2008 Foreign students of Homel State Medical University strike to protest against racial harassment

Instead of coming to classes, foreign students gathered in the hall of the higher educational establishment and demanded that a meeting with the police was held there. They turned the attention of the administration to facts of hooligan assaults near the hostel where citizens of India lived.

15.09.2008 ‘Extremist materials’ found on youth activist’s computer 18 months after confiscation

On 13 September a student of Bialystok University Aliaksei Trubkin received documents from Hrodna regional KGB department by post. According to them, the guy is to come to the court of Kastrychnitski district in Hrodna on 18 September, as he is charged with ‘extremism’.

10.09.2008 ‘Young Front’ activist Rastsislau Pankratau expelled from Mahiliou State University

As we have already informed, the administration of Mahiliou State University planned to expel the student after giving him an unsatisfactory mark at his English exam. The information proved to be true: Rastsislau Pankratau was expelled.

05.09.2008 Mahiliou: youth activists are expelled from university

The coordinator of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Tatsiana Shambalava and a leader of Mahiliou organization of the Young Front Rastsislau Pankratau are expelled from Mahiliou State University.
