Another founding meeting of NGO “Movement for Freedom” took place in Mahiliou.
Its supporters from all over Belarus gathered for the fourth time in order to approve the documents required by the state. Three earlier attempts to register the movement in the Ministry of Justice ended with a failure.

05.09.2008 Minsk: candidate Viktar Yanchurevich intends to hold 23 electoral pickets
A candidate at Kalinouskaya electoral constituency in Minsk, adherent of the movement For Freedom Viktar Yanchurevich has addressed the city authorities to require permission for holding 23 pickets. He intends to meet with the electors during each day of his agitation campaign and tell him about his electoral program. He is also going to inform them about the ‘peculiarities’ of the present elections and the general political situation in the country.

On 4 September Mechyslau Yaskevich, the deputy head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, was detained by the police and guarded to Kastrychnitski district police department.

The justice department has for the seventh time refused to register Hrodna oblast branch of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada. The members of the branch do not rule out that the officials substituted the documents for registration that were submitted by them.
08.08.2008 Pavel Kuryianovich sentenced to 15 days of jail. Imprisoned Dashkevich and Finkevich go on hunger-strike
The leaders of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich and Arthur Finkevich, arrested in Minsk yesterday, announced a hunger strike in Akrestsin Street detention centre. The activist of the civil campaign European Belarus Pavel Kuryianovich stood trial at the court of Maskouski district of Minsk and was sentenced to 15 days of jail for ‘petty hooliganism’.
08.08.2008 Police and KGB burst into ‘Young Front’ office
On 7 August in the evening riot policemen and KGB officers broke into the head office of the Young Front in Karal Street in Minsk. Two entrance doors were broken. The leaders of the organization Zmitser Dashkevich and Arthur Finkevich, as well as 4 activists of the Young Front and an activist of the civil campaign European Belarus Pavel Kuryianovich were arrested.

Yury Meliashkevich, the member of Yaseninskaya district electoral commission #100, activist of the For Freedom movement has addressed the Central Electoral Commission with an inquiry concerning the prohibition on use of laptops to members of his commission.
06.08.2008 Supreme Court upholds registration denial to ‘For Freedom’ movement
Today the Supreme Court has ruled to reject the suit of the movement For Freedom on the basis of a technical mistake in the guarantee letter of the organization which agreed to provide legal address for it.
05.08.2008 Supreme Court starts proceedings on suit against registration denial to For Freedom movement
The Supreme Court started the consideration of the suit of the republican NGO Movement For Freedom against the refusal of the Ministry of Justice to give the state registration to it. The Ministry of Justice insists that the majority of applicants participate in political mass actions and comment on political events. That’s why, if the organization is registered, most probably its aims will not correspond to the aims which stand in the charter.
16.07.2008 For Freedom Movement sues Ministry of Justice
Members of the organizing committee of the Movement “For Freedom” filed a complaint to the Supreme Court. The founders of the non-governmental organization believe that the decision of the Ministry of Justice dated June 19th is illegal. The Ministry denied registration to the Movement claiming its members had violated the legislation of Belarus. By such a denial the Ministry restricts the constitutional right of the citizens to form associations.
14.07.2008 Blast news: some of the detained activists get released from jail
The opposition activists Siarhei Vysotski and Alexander Serhiyenka, detained over the case of blasts on 4 July, were released from the KGB detention center on Saturday, 12 July.
