06.01.2010 Results of Uladzimir Hrydzin’s complaints against unlawful actions of police
Officers of the Pershamaiski district police department of Minsk partially confessed the violations towards the journalist Uladzimir Hrydzin on 29 September, whereas the Pershamaiski district guard department of MIA states that its officers didn’t violate any legal norms by their actions.
06.01.2010 BCD leaders sue Belarusian State TV and Radio Company
On 6 January the preliminary sitting on the lawsuit of the co-chairmen of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Vital Rymasheuski and Pavel Seviarynets against the Belarusian TV and Radio Company took place at the Pershamaiski district court of Minsk. The lawsuit is considered by Judge Volha Baham’ia.
06.01.2010 ’Mahiliouski Chas’ denied registration third time
The Ministry of Information for the third time refused to register the private newspaper Mahiliouski Chas. This time the officials stated that the building where the legal address of the edition was placed didn’t meet the legal requirements.
06.01.2010 Case of political prisoners Autukhovich and Asipenka taken to Supreme Court
The case was taken to court on 30 December, the date of the trial is unknown. BelaPAN learnt this from Autukhovich’s lawyer Pavel Sapelka and Asipenka’s lawyer Tamara Sidarenka.
06.01.2010 Ivianets: criminal case brought against Union of Poles activist
Police initiated a criminal case against the head of the Polish House in Ivyanets, Teresa Sobal. At the moment Teresa Sobal is a suspect: a criminal case has been initiated against the activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus which is not recognized by the authorities, under Article 210 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, Radio Racyja informs.
06.01.2010 Review-Chronicle of Human Rights Violations in Belarus in December 2009
At the end of the year its results were summed up. On 22 December the leadership of the United Democratic Forces of Belarus held a press-conference at which it was stated that this year the situation for the opposition was no better than last year. The country again has political prisoners, the Ministry of Justice again denies state registration to political parties and NGOs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies accreditation to foreign media and their correspondents. Besides, democratic activists are kidnapped by unidentified persons and are arrested for participation in unauthorized peaceful street actions.
