At its 134th session held in Geneva on 4-7 July, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union adopted a decision on the case of Viktar Hanchar's disappearance, reiterating its wish to ascertain the views and response of the authorities on a number of questions.

Minsk resident Aliaksei Balashou lodged a complaint with Minsk City Court appealing an earlier verdict by Minsk Maskouski District Court. However, the reply received by the plaintiff was signed by the same judge who sentenced Mr. Balashou to 5 days of arrest.

The coordinator of European Belarus civil campaign has undergone surgery today at the 5th hospital in Minsk.
The operation lasted for 2.5 hours. “Neurosurgeons said it was successful,” the wife of the political prisoner, Volha Bandarenka, said. It is too early to make any conclusions, because such operations require at least some months of rehabilitation.

“Under the UN procedures, Belarus should not have executed the death verdicts.
