14.03.2012 Human rights defender demands to change restraint to Siarhei Kavalenka

Pavel Levinau has filed the ninth appeal with Judge of the Pershamaiski District Court of Vitsebsk Alena Zhuk who had sentenced Siarhei Kavalenka to 2 years and 1 months of imprisonment on 24 February 2011. The judge has the right to change restraint to the prisoner till the enforcement of the verdict.

Alena Kavalenka, her 7-month-old daughter and a number of Kavalenka’s friends were detained for holding an action of solidarity with the political prisoner. Siarhei Parsiukevich told about the detention by telephone.

Aleh Stakhayevich, elected chairman of the newly established trade union organization at the "Granit" enterprise in Mikashevichy, filed an appeal with the Luninets District Court to get rehabilitated at work.

The detention was conducted by lieutenant-colonel Katovich, the head of the public security department of the Chyhunachny DPD near house #28 in Lenin Street, where the oppositionist distributes independent press every day. Another police officer shot the detention on video.
