The imprisoned head of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” received congratulations on Christmas from the heads of the embassies of the EU member states and the USA. Ales Bialiatski mentioned that in a letter to his colleagues on 7 January.

10.01.2014 Babruisk and Mahiliou authorities determined places banned for signature pickets

Babruisk City Executive Committee has published a list of places prohibited for picketing for the purpose of collecting signatures for nomination of candidates for the local elections. The list of places remains unchanged when compared to the last election, and hence creates the same uncomfortable conditions for collecting signatures: pickets are prohibited in almost all places of Babruisk which are popular with the public.

10.01.2014 Haradok: political activist Leanid Autukhou detained due to anonimous denunciation

In the Haradok District Police Department Mr. Autukhovich was showed a letter signed by the word "Anonymous". The letter stated that he was preparing a protest action in the city. As a result the BPF activist was held at the DPD for three years, until the departure from Haradok of hte regional authorities who came there to meet with disgruntled local businessmen.

10.01.2014 Homel: fine for anti-alcoholization picket

January 9 Tsentralny District Court Judge Alena Tsalkova issued a verdict on the administrative case against the coordinator of the civil initiative "Stop Drinking – Start Living!" Dzmitry Karashkou. He was sentenced to a fine of 10 basic units (1.3 million rubles) for holding an anti-alcohol picket.

December 30, 2013 prisoner Piatro Kuchura, who was serving a sentence in penal colony No. 15 who disturbed the administration defending his rights, was transferred to the maximum security prson No. 4 in Mahiliou for three years.

The panel of judges on civil cases of the Brest Regional Civil Court upheld the decision of the Biaroza District Court, which upheld the picket ban, issued to human rights defenders Siarhei Rusetski and Tamara Shchapiotkina by the local authorities.
