07.11.2011 Destruction of historical heritage in Slonim and Vitsebsk
Mechyslau Kastsiuk, now a member of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assemblies of Belarus, headed the Slonim District Executive Committee in 2002-2008. A monument of wooden architecture, mansion on Chkalau Street, was destroyed during this time. The mansion was situated in a small public garden. It was constructed in 1923 and followed the traditions in the construction of mansions of 18-19 centuries. Though it was ruined, the mansion is still present in the local register of monuments of architecture.
03.11.2011 Human rights defenders draw attention to manifestations of neo-Nazism in Brest
The Brest regional newspaper “Zarya” has published an article “Brown Distemper” about a severe beating of two citizens by fans of a local football club. As said by a member of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Valiantsin Lazarenkau, this article again confirms that there is really a neo-Nazi youth group among the local football fans.
13.10.2011 Hrodna: activist of “Tell The Truth!” Tatsiana Kasataya is expelled from post-graduate course
The ideological pressurization is still growing in the Hrodna State University named after Yanka Kupala. Last week, on 8 October, the deans ordered lecturers to keep students in class rooms during the People's Assembly. In the beginning of this week it also became known about the expulsion of Tatsiana Kasataya, an activist of the civil movement “Tell The Truth!” from the post-graduate course.
12.10.2011 New rector of International Institute MITSO expels participant of silent protests
Valiantsin Fiadziuk, fourth-year student of the International Institute MITSO (higher educational establishment of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Belarus) was expelled for participation in a silent protest action. The order for his expulsion was signed by the new rector, Stanislau Kniazeu.

The Human Rights Center Viasna offers the most sincere condolence to the families of all victims of the terrorist act which took place in the Minsk metro on 11 April. We grieve together with our people that will yet have to realize what has happened and live through it. The administration of Hrodna State University started expelling students who had taken part in the protest action of 19 December in Minsk. The first victim became Barys Zakharchuk, a student of the physical-technical faculty.
