04.12.2013 Homel: trials for “Dziady” (“Forefathers Eve”) action
The member of the United Civil Party Uladzimir Shytsikau received a summons to the Navabelitski District Court of Homel for consideration of the administrative case, according to which the head of the division of public order of the Navabelitski District Police Department of Homel, Lieutenant Colonel Henadz Khilkevich accuses him of violating the order of organizing and holding mass events. The trial is scheduled for 10 December.

Brest Regional Court dismissed the appeal of human rights defenders from Biaroza, who asked to recognize as illegal the ban on the picket they intended to hold on 4 August, and reverse the decision of the Biaroza District Court, which declared the decision of the Executive Committee lawful.

On November 28, the Court of Kalinkavichy district heard the charges brought against a local resident who attacked United Civil Party activist Dzianis Rabianok, spraying pepper gas into his eyes in April 2013. As a result, the activist’s eyes were burnt and he had to seek medical aid.
28.11.2013 Baranavichy human rights defender appeals fine to Supreme Court Chairman
Human rights defender Siarhei Housha filed a complaint with Chairman of the Supreme Court Valiantsin Sukala to challenge a decision by the Court of Baranavichy and Baranavichy district of August 21, 2012 to fine him 1.5 mln rubles. The charges stemmed from a statement by head of Baranavichy district election commission Tatsiana Latyshava in which she claimed that the human rights defender insulted her and swore at the commission members.

25.11.2013 Baranavichy activist appeals decision on Milavidy Festival
Civil society activist Viktar Syrytsa filed on Saturday a complaint to the chairman of the Brest Regional Court to appeal a ruling by the district and city court of Baranavichy of July 31, 2013 and a ruling of the Brest Regional Court of August 29, 2013 in the case of Milavidy Festival. On July 31, Judge Katsiaryna Hruda found the activist guilty of planning and organizing an unsanctioned rally in the town of Milavidy on June 2 (Part 2 of Art. 23.34 of the Administrative Code) and ruled to sentence him to a fine of 2.6 mln rubles. Judge Natallia Surma of the Brest Regional Court later upheld the decision of the trial court.

22.11.2013 Baranavichy trade union activist to pay insurance fee in lawsuit by Interior Ministry
The court of the district and the city of Baranavichy heard yesterday the case of local trade union activist Aliaksandr Vaitseshyk and ruled, as a result, to recover insurance payments in favor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the amount of 175 thousand rubles. The case was considered by Judge Vera Utlik. The lawsuit against the activist was filed by the Baranavichy interdistrict Prosecutor’s Office. The claim stemmed from a previous conviction of the activist over allegedly beating a police officer.
