02.11.2010 Baranavichy: observer not permitted to observe verification of signature sheets
On 30 October observer Siarhei Housha visited the Baranavichy
City Territorial Election Commission and asked the duty committee member Leanid
Chukho, whether the commission sitting for distribution of the signature sheets
among the commission members had taken place. Leanid Aslanavich Chukho (Soviet
Army colonel, retired, nominated to the commission by the Belarusian Union of
Officers, a member of the campaign team of Aliaksandr Lukashenka) told him that
it hadn’t taken place and recommended not to hurry, because the signature
sheets were stored in a vault, and observers would be surely invited to the sitting.
Siarhei Housha reminded the commission member that he had submitted to the
commission a request for being informed about the time and place of the
verification of signature sheets, to which Mr. Chukho replied that the
committee would consider the application.

The CEC
believes that making school teachers and kindergarten educators collect
signatures for nomination of presidential candidate Aliaksandr Lukashenka
during working hours is completely legal, even if they are not members of his
campaign team. This conclusion can be drawn from the response of the Chairperson
of the Central Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna to the complaint of the human
rights defender Valiantsin Stefanovich concerning the discovery of ‘the
schedule of participation in the picket near the Serabranka market at 14 October 2010’ by journalists of the
European Radio for Belarus.
02.11.2010 Central Election Commission ‘lost’ signatures collected for Uladzimir Niakliayeu in Vitsebsk region
During a press conference the Central Election Commission stated that no signatures were collected in the Vitsebsk region for the nomination of Uladzimir Niakliayeu. The local activists refuted this by contacting the regional election commission. The Commission Chairman Viachaslau Krukovski confirmed that it had handed over 32,005 signatures. Nevertheless, the bug hasn’t been fixed at the CEC website.

Siarhei Ryzhou is dismissed from the position of the head of the foreign economic relations department of the fruit and vegetable combine Nouka. He states that he started receiving warnings about the dismissal after the registration of his campaign team, and his statement about withdrawal from the election on 21 October didn’t influence the situation.

The Babruisk member of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Aliaksandr Leanenka filed a complaint to the CEC and the Babruisk City Executive Committee in connection with the refusal to let him observe the formation of election commissions in the Leninski district.
